Maxwell's longtime friends, Hawaiian Businessmen, 
their mutual love and admiration of the South Pacific 
nations drew Maxwell into becoming a fellow traveler. 
Maxwell, is inspired by the South Pacific late 
afternoon light, "... the not any twilight there, 
but something particularly ... else." He painted his 
friends after days of discussion, choosing a location 
near their home to indicate the lush, tangled 
environment of the tropics. Years of understanding 
and involvement in a day to day relationship with 
his companions went into this intimate look into a
