One of businesses', "Wunderkind", Avery commissioned
Maxwell for a double portrait. A gracious, Jane,
newly married, prepared a luncheon for an opportunity
to get acquainted. Maxwell, concerned with the couples
casual approach to the portrait, completed the painting,
but on two classical sized pieces of 300# handmade
European paper.
"One for each of them, if they ever get divorced."
The luncheon lasted over three hours, with photo sessions
between courses. Over one hundred photographs were taken.
The two paintings together measure 46 by 33 inches.
Years later, framed, it hangs in their,
much lived in, twin girls dominated, dining room.
